Teach a child to read, give a child a chance.
While there are no guarantees, we believe that a hopeful future emerges from the gift of literacy AND the power of a supportive and encouraging relationship with a Reading Mentor.
No agenda
CLP partner-organizations don't initiate service to the school to further a religious, political, or ideological agenda. We come to serve only in the ways we are invited to serve.
Serve Humbly
We encourage mentor-partners to recognize the expertise of school staff and work alongside them to fill in school-identified needs and gaps. We don’t criticize school curriculum or teaching philosophy.
Under-Promise and Over-Deliver
Schools and literacy non-profits too often experience volunteers who fail to follow through. CLP organizations keep their word.
Serve together.
We urge all organizations to encourage their people to serve together—supporting school activities and the reading program. It is more fulfilling for everyone when we serve as a community.
